Cash Boost For Community Projects Across Harborough

Grants totalling over £925,000 have been given to community projects across Harborough.

The District Council has handed out the cash, provided by developers to boost community facilities, in locations where they have built, through the Section 106 scheme.

Great Glen Parish Council has benefited from the largest grant – awarded £892.938 towards the cost of a new community building, to replace the ageing youth centre and village hall.

St Andrew’s Church in North Kilworth is getting over £17,000 to help pay for the refurbishment of the ancient building and St Nicholas Church in Fleckney has been handed £4.020 for outdoor improvements.

Meanwhile, youngsters in South Kilworth will get a new zip-wire facility at the play area, after the Parish Council was awarded over £2,500.

A further grant of £9,570 to Great Glen Parish Council will fund two footpaths at the cemetery in London Road, to improve access and safety.

Councillor Simon Whelband, Harborough District Council’s Cabinet member for communities, said: “We are delighted to be allocating such a significant amount of money to some really positive local projects which will benefit residents and communities for many years to come. Section 106 funding provides an opportunity to bring much-needed infrastructure to communities across the district.”
