Campaign Against Leicester Boundary Changes Reaches Number 10

Nearly 40,000 signatures have been handed to Downing Street as campaigners call for plans to expand Leicester’s political boundary to be scrapped.

Petitions organised by Conservative MPs across Leicestershire were delivered to Number 10, following concerns about proposals which would bring parts of Leicestershire, including areas of Harborough District, into the city.

The plans have faced mass opposition from residents and campaigners, who say local communities should have a say over any changes to their political boundaries.

The proposal forms part of wider local government reorganisation, which the government has put on hold while it seeks legal advice.

Harborough MP Neil O’Brien has been among those calling for the proposals to be abandoned.

He says the number of signatures demonstrates the strength of feeling across Leicestershire and that he will continue to press the government to drop the plans:
