Calls To Deal With A6 Speeding

There are fears someone will be killed unless a permanent solution is found to deal with speeding drivers on the A6 bypass.

Latest checks by Police clocked one driver travelling at over a hundred miles per hour on the stretch between Great Glen and Kibworth.

In the past three months speeds of 116, 120 and 122 have also been recorded.

Leicestershire County Council, who are responsible for installing speed cameras, say there is not the need for them on the bypass.

A spokesman told Hfm: “We are aware of concerns with regards to speeding motorists on the A6 and are continuing to trial average speed cameras at locations across the county, including on the A6 Harborough Road in Oadby.

“Following an investigation in 2017, in general, we found that the majority of motorists do comply with the existing speed limit.

“Unfortunately, as recent police reports show, there is always a minority who disregard the speed limit and it is for the police to enforce these restrictions, as is their duty.”
