Businesses Remain Open As Locks Close

The flight of locks at Foxton has been closed to boats as restrictions come into force to conserve water during drought conditions.

The Canal and River Trust has taken the decision due to dwindling supplies at reservoirs that feed the Grand Union Canal.

Although a stretch of the waterway is now closed to through-boats, everything else at Foxton Locks remains open and people are being encouraged to continue to visit.

It is not yet known how long the restrictions will have to remain in force for and the Canal and River Trist will be using the closure to carry out maintenance work to some of the locks.

Businesses and others based at Foxton Locks are stressing they are still open.

The Harborough Arm of the canal from Union Wharf to Foxton is unaffected by the restrictions, so boats will still be able to navigate up and down, but won’t be able to go through any locks when they join the main line of the canal at Foxton.
