Bus Strikes Averted After Pay Deal Accepted

Written by on 15th December 2025

Arriva bus workers in Leicestershire have accepted new pay deal meaning strike action has been averted.

The Unite union had paused planned industrial action while the new offer was considered by drivers, depot and office staff.

Staff will see their pay increase by 6.5 per cent and rivers will also receive a one off non-consolidated payment of £1,000 and an improvement to their bank holiday working rate.

Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: “A huge well done to Arriva Leicestershire workforce who have shown that workers who stand together win together. Once again, Unite’s laser focus on improving jobs, pay and conditions is putting money into our members’ pockets.”

The union had proposed eight days of action over Christmas and into the New Year, before the agreement was reached.

A spokesperson for Arriva Midlands said: “We’re pleased to have come to an agreement with Unite which means industrial action will not take place.

“We are sure this will come as a relief to our customers.”
