Burglary Gang Jailed For A Total Of Over 15 Years

A gang of burglars who stole a safe containing £20,000 from a house in Illston On The Hill have been jailed for a total of over 15 years.

They used a Land Rover Discovery, stolen earlier in the night from outside a house in Hallaton, to transport the safe to a secluded woodland, where they smashed it open.

The occupants were inside both houses at the time.

Four men have admitted the burglaries, that took place in the early hours of September 27th last year, at Leicester Crown Court, along with other break-ins.

A 15 year old boy was sentenced for his involvement.

• Oliver Read, 23, of Aylestone Lane, Wigston pleaded guilty to the Illston on the Hill burglary, theft of motor vehicle from this address and the burglary in Hallaton. He was sentenced to three years.

• Barry Kew-Moss, 20, of Limehurst Avenue, Loughborough pleaded guilty to the Illston on the Hill burglary, theft of motor vehicle from this address, burglary in Hallaton, burglary in Leicester and theft of motor vehicle from this address. He was sentenced to three years and nine months.

• Aurel Sadiki, 22, of Poplar Road, Shelthorpe, pleaded guilty to the Illston on the Hill burglary, theft of motor vehicle from this address, burglary in Hallaton, burglary in Leicester and theft of motor vehicle from this address. He was sentenced to four years and six months

• Jacob Wesley, 26, of Aneford Road, Leicester pleaded guilty to the Illston on the Hill burglary, theft of motor vehicle from this address, burglary in Hallaton, burglary in Leicester, theft of motor vehicle from this address and burglary in Shepshed. He was sentenced to three years and nine months.

• A 15-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to the Illston on the Hill burglary, the burglary in Hallaton, two attempted burglaries in Syston on 14 October, a burglary in Loughborough on 26 October and a charge of taking without owners consent (TWOC) relating a vehicle stolen in Leicester on 27 October. He was sentenced on 5 June to a three year youth rehabilitation order.

Detective Constable Stephen Henderson from Leicestershire Police was the investigating officer.

He said: “This group was responsible for a number of car key breaks over the county last year breaking into houses to steal high value cars and on one occasion stole a safe containing a substantial amount of money.

“A significant amount of detective work was put into the investigation to arrest and convict of these people, who have pleaded guilty and are now serving prison sentences for these offences. I hope this action shows our commitment to tackling this type of crime and is seen positively by the victims and communities affected by it.”
