Burglar Targeted Pensioner’s House As She Let Cat Out

A burglar who broke into an elderly woman’s home in Rothwell and stole her purse has been jailed for over four years.

Ricky Macrae slipped into the property in Castle Hill on the evening of April 4th, when the woman aged in her 80s unlocked the door to let her cat out.

Once inside, the 43-year-old stole her purse and left via a side door.

A family member who had access to the woman’s doorbell camera realised Macrae had broken in, and he was later arrested.

Macrae, of no fixed address, was sentenced to four years and two months in prison, after pleading guilty to burglary at Northampton Crown Court.

He was also given a 10-year criminal behaviour order.

PC Philip Wright, lead investigator in the case, said: “We are really passionate in our team about putting as many burglars behind bars as we can because we know how significantly being a victim of burglary can affect a person.

“I hope this result reassures our communities in Northamptonshire.”
