Bumper Crowd At Market Harborough Carnival

Organisers of the Market Harborough Carnival have hailed it a big success.

Thousands of people turned out to enjoy Saturday’s community event, which had the theme of ‘a summer of love’ and began with 600 runners taking part in the 10k carnival run around the town.

A parade of around 20 floats and vehicles followed the runners and the best float competition was won by the 1st Bowdens Squirrels group, with the Core Dance Company picking up second prize and Freedom Support Academy coming third.

Carnival organisers have thanked Stephen Sanderson Transport for providing lorries for the floats.

HFM’s Pat Stones was one of the judges, together with Jarrod Burke from Randalls, Gareth Thomas, president of Market Harborough Chamber of Trade and Cllr Peter James, Chairman of Harborough District Council, who spoke to HFM:

Bumper crowds descended on Symington’s Recreation Ground, which became the Carnival Showground for the afternoon.

There was a host of entertainment and activities for the whole family, including live music and performances from dance and theatre groups and Harborough Band in front of the HFM stage.

Keith Brown, 79, from Desborough was one of the oldest competitors in the carnival run and took part to help raise awareness of the Children’s Air Ambulance.
