Borough Alliance FC Hopeful Of Securing Long-Term Home

Written by on 19th March 2021

Market Harborough’s Borough Alliance Football Club hopes it will soon reach its goal of securing a home for the future.

Officials have been battling for seven years to get Harborough District Council to give them a long-term lease to use Symington’s Recreation Ground.

Talks have now begun between the grassroots club, which has 400 young players, and the Council, with a view to a lease being secured on the site, or at another location, should the club re-locate.

There is also hope improvements will be carried out to facilities at Symington’s Rec.

Borough Alliance Chairman Mick Draper spoke to Hfm:

Borough Alliance FC is currently based at Symington’s Recreation Ground

A spokesperson for Harborough District Council told Hfm: “Symington’s Recreation Ground is used by both the Borough Alliance FC and the Welland Valley Archery Club.

“We are currently in discussions with the football club about potential future options around the lease on the Symingtons Rec and we will continue to work with them moving forward to seek to identify the all the options available to us.

“We are also considering the archery club in any decisions we make about the lease and the usage of the facility.

“Grassroots sport is important and we will continue to try to support Borough Alliance FC in their ambitions for the club.

“With this in mind, we are encouraging the club to continue dialogue with us with respect to any concerns they have relating to the site and their future plans.”
