Big Increase In Homelessness Across Harborough

There has been a big increase in homelessness across Harborough.

257 household and individuals have asked Harborough District Council for help in the past year, more than double the number in 2019.

Many of those who have sought help have needed to be put up in temporary accommodation.

Polly Neet from charity Shelter told HFM the increase is concerning:

Cllr Jim Knight, Harborough District Council’s Cabinet lead for Housing, said: “We acknowledge that there has been a rise in homelessness across Harborough district in the past year which is in line with the national picture.

“Circumstances vary, but some of the main reasons for loss of a settled home are domestic abuse, family or friends no longer willing to accommodate or end of assured shorthold tenancy.

“The council does everything possible to support people.”
