Arrest After Distraction Thefts At Cash Machines In Market Harborough

Police investigating distraction thefts at cash machines in Market Harborough are appealing for further potential victims to come forward after a man was arrested.

There have been five incidents in the town centre in recent weeks, where elderly people about to take their money have been approached by a man who told them the ATM was broken, before covering the screen with a newspaper and stealing the cash.

The thefts are being linked to similar incidents in other parts of the East Midlands.

Derbyshire Constabulary is leading the investigation and have arrested a 26-year-old man from Leicester in connection with them.

He has been released on bail pending further enquiries.

Anyone who has been targeted in Market Harborough and has not yet reported the incident is being urged to do so.
