Armed Police Deployed After Man Seen With ‘Gun’ In Great Glen

Armed police officers were deployed in Great Glen after reports a man was seen with a gun travelling in a van.

They were sent to the area of Devana Way yesterday afternoon and a helicopter from the National Police Air Service was also scrambled to village.

The van was located and a man arrested, however it was later established the firearm was a legally-owned air weapon.

A spokesperson for Leicestershire Police told HFM: “Shortly before 3.30pm yesterday (Thursday 9 May) a report was received stating man had been seen with a gun while travelling in a van in the area of Devana Way, Great Glen.

“In the interest of public and police safety, armed officers were deployed.

“The van was located and a 34-year-old man was subsequently arrested.

“Following further enquiries, it was established the firearm was a legally-owned air weapon. The man was released with no further action.

“No injuries were reported during the incident.”
