Anger At Traffic Chaos

Traffic chaos in Market Harborough  has prompted calls for someone to take responsibility.

There was gridlock after Kettering Road was shut either side of the railway bridge in Little Bowden on Friday and over the weekend.

The closure of that main thoroughfare into town plus the on-going closure on Great Bowden Road at the Rockingham Road junction, has meant usual ten minute journeys taking up to an hour.

Questions are being asked why the work – being carried out by Severn Trent Water – is taking place at the same time and who allowed to.

Lib Dem Councillors have demanded a meeting with highway officers at Leicestershire County Council.

A Severn Trent spokesperson said: “Due to some complications with traffic management, the road was unable to be tarmacked and opened over this weekend as planned, but Great Bowden road is now back open again.

“We’re sorry to any businesses on Kettering road who may be affected by our work, we’ve put ‘business open as usual’ signs out, so everyone knows businesses are still open for the duration of the work. Again, we’re sorry if our work is causing an inconvenience, but we want to say thank you to everyone in Market Harborough for their continued patience as our work progresses.”
