A new company has taken over running trains through Market Harborough.
Abellio will operate the franchise for eight years under the name East Midlands Railway – or ‘EMR’ – taking over from East Midlands Trains.
The Dutch-owned company is pledging £600m worth of improvements, including introducing new high-speed trains, which will be able to run on diesel and electric, to replace aging rolling stock.
Passengers will also get free wi-fi.
Steve Jones is Chairman of the Harborough Rail Users Group and spoke to Hfm:

How the new trains will look
Julian Edwards, Managing Director of East Midlands Railway, said: “Today is a new era for rail services on East Midlands Railway.
“We have begun to deliver on our promises with improved passenger compensation and a Price Promise for all passengers. We are investing in new and better trains, improved stations and more services, including between London and key destinations like London Luton Airport and Corby. Our customers will also notice significant improvements at St Pancras station when they arrive at and depart from the station.”
