Church Street To Get Some Festive Lights!

Traders in Market Harborough’s Church Street are to get lit small Christmas Trees above their shops and money to help decorate their windows this festive season.

The Christmas Lights brackets remain in place on Church Street
The announcement was made to them by Council Leader Neil Bannister, at a meeting last night.
It was called after the outcry that the usual cross-street lights won’t go up, because of changes to health and safety regulations.
Around 40 of the trees will be placed along the street – and independent retailers will each be given £100 towards their own festive displays.
Over 1500 people signed a petition in less than a week demanding light displays.

A further meeting will take place in January to discuss the potential of the traditional lights returning – it’s estimated it will cost £28,000 to upgrade the infrastructure so the cross-street displays meet new health and safety legislation.
