Cash from developers for community facilities across Harborough has topped £6m in five years.

Harborough Council has secured the so-called Section 106 money to improve play areas, sporting facilities, village halls and to provide affordable housing for those struggling to buy or rent a home.

Fleckney, Husbands Bosworth, Lubenham, Foxton, Market Harborough, Great Bowden and the Langtons – has benefitted from over £2.5m of contributions, and Scraptoft, Great Glen and the Kibworths, £2m.

The west of the Harborough district – which includes Lutterworth and Broughton Astley – has benefited from nearly £1.6m of developer contributions.

Last month it emerged over half a million pounds that should have been spent on improved bus services locally, had to be handed back to developers by Leicestershire County Council because it wasn’t spent in time.
