Go-Ahead For £30 million Special School in Husbands Bosworth

Plans for a new £30 million special school in Husbands Bosworth have been approved.
Leicestershire County Council has been granted planning permission to build the 252-place school on land off Kilworth Road.
It will cater for pupils aged four to 19 with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
The two-storey development is expected to employ around 100 members of staff, with the council aiming to complete construction and open the school in 2028.

How the new school will look
The new school will provide specialist provision in an area currently without its own SEND school. At present, some young people in south Leicestershire have to travel long distances, including outside the county, to access suitable education.
Councillor Charles Pugsley, the county council’s cabinet member for children and families, welcomed the approval.
He said: “There is a great and ever-growing need for specialist school places in Leicestershire.”
He added that a purpose-built school in the area where it is most needed was “a great start” towards improving access to specialist support in Harborough.
The council says the development is also expected to reduce its reliance on independent SEND providers and help meet demand for specialist places in the longer term.
The Husbands Bosworth site was identified as the best location to serve the Harborough area, helping to reduce travel distances for pupils and their families.
