Fight To Save Desborough Library Heads To Court Today
Written by HFM News on 26th July 2018
A Legal action launched in a bid to stop the closure of Desborough Library heads to court today.
Solicitors acting on behalf of the family of a young girl who regularly uses the facility have secured the Judicial Review into Northamptonshire County Council’s decision to shut it later this year – along with 20 others in the county – as part of cost-cutting.
Campaigners argue the move breaches the 1964 Public Libraries and Museums Act, which states all areas should have a ‘comprehensive and efficient’ library service and that public consultation wasn’t adequate.
Residents helped raise over £2,000 to support the action, with the hearing taking place in Birmingham.
The Council says it will be defending the challenge.
