Harborough firefighter helps tackle Suffolk wildfires

A firefighter based in Market Harborough is part of a Leicestershire crew supporting efforts to bring major wildfires in Suffolk under control.

Firefighter Ben Perry has been sent alongside colleagues from Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service to assist with the operation at Dunwich Heath.

The wildfire has seen multiple fire crews working to prevent the blaze spreading towards nearby homes, as part of a nationally co-ordinated response.

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service sent a spare fire engine and a crew of four firefighters to support Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service, with a further two firefighters also deployed to provide relief.

The team is expected to remain in Suffolk until tomorrow while the fire is brought fully under control.

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service said the deployment demonstrated how fire services across the country support each other during major incidents.

The service added that it continues to maintain a full operational response across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland while providing assistance elsewhere.
