Plans Submitted for New £30m SEND School in Husbands Bosworth

Plans for a new school in Husbands Bosworth for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities have moved a step closer after a planning application was submitted.

Leicestershire County Council is proposing to invest around £30 million in the project, which would create a new specialist school on 13 acres of council-owned land off Kilworth Road.

The two-storey school would accommodate around 250 pupils aged four to 19 and employ approximately 100 members of staff.

The development would also include a 100-space car park, sports pitches and a multi-use games area.

The school is intended to help meet growing demand for specialist education provision across Leicestershire, particularly in South Leicestershire, where many families currently face long journeys to suitable schools or rely on independent or out-of-county SEND provision.

The county council says Husbands Bosworth was identified as a suitable location because it is well placed to serve the area while helping to reduce travel distances for pupils and easing pressure on existing specialist schools elsewhere in the county.

The authority also says the additional places would reduce its reliance on costly independent SEND providers.

The planning application is set to be considered by the county council’s development control committee in the coming months.
