Country Park Approved For Market Harborough

Plans for a new country park on the Wellington Place estate in Market Harborough have been approved.
The development will be created on around five acres of land off Leicester Road, which was previously earmarked for sports pitches.
Developers Davidsons Group had argued the country park would make a better contribution to the area, saying the original pitches proposal had proven difficult due to the site’s sloping ground and the need for significant retaining structures.

Planning documents also raised concerns that fencing for sports pitches would not “form a good neighbour” for surrounding homes, while parking for the facilities could have put pressure on nearby roads. As part of the proposal, funding will be provided for sports provision off site.
Harborough District Council has approved a scheme that will include surfaced and unsurfaced paths, seating and bins, as well as areas for informal play such as a kick-about space.
A planning statement described the development as providing “somewhere the community can enjoy and use freely in an informal setting”.
The site forms part of the wider Wellington Place housing development in Market Harborough.
