Public Invited to Meeting on Proposed Desborough Airfield Solar Farm

Residents are being invited to attend a public meeting tomorrow to learn more about plans for a major solar farm and battery storage facility on the former RAF Desborough Airfield.
The event, organised by Wilbarston Parish Council and Friends of the Airfield and Valley (FAV), takes place at Wilbarston Village Hall from 4pm to 7pm.
It will provide an update on revised proposals by Innova Renewables for a 99.9MW solar array and a 100MW Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) on the former airfield site, along with associated infrastructure extending towards the Welland Valley.
The scheme would cover around 630 acres and generate enough electricity to power an estimated 32,000 homes.
Organisers say the meeting is open not only to Wilbarston residents but also to people from neighbouring communities who could be affected by the development.
Information guides prepared by Friends of the Airfield and Valley will be available to help visitors understand the proposals and their potential impact.
Wilbarston Parish Council chairman Councillor Andrew Deacon said: “This is a chance for the public to examine the proposal in depth and come to an informed conclusion as to how this development will change the area and for any questions for the developer to be put forward.
“We look forward to welcoming all users of the Airfield and Jurassic Way as well as the neighbouring villagers.”
Innova Renewables is currently carrying out public consultation ahead of submitting a planning application for the project.
