A grandmother from Broughton Astley has won £333,333 in the People’s Postcode Lottery – just days after her daughter predicted the exact amount.

Lorraine Cokien, 73, is sharing £1m with two neighbours after postcode LE9 6RQ landed lottery’s weekly Millionaire Street prize.

The remarkable win came after Lorraine’s daughter, Zoe, told her: “When you pull out the big one, it will be £333,333.”

When the cheque was revealed, Zoe could hardly believe it.

“I literally just said that,” she said. “I was joking, but I wasn’t joking. I said it would be all the threes.”

Zoe, who describes herself as being obsessed with the number three, said she has always considered it lucky and even chose her current home because the house number adds up to three.

Lorraine said she was overwhelmed by the win.

“Oh my God! It’s just unreal… but it’s real. I never thought anything like this would happen to me.”

The retired NHS and Next Directory worker plans to use the money to buy a new car, decorate her recently purchased home and enjoy holidays with her family.

A Christmas trip to New York with her granddaughters is already being discussed, while Lorraine is also considering buying a holiday home abroad.

The win came shortly after she updated her lottery account details following a house move last year.

“I suddenly thought I needed to change it and did it in March or April. Just as well!” she said.

Lorraine also welcomed the fact that the prize was shared with neighbours and highlighted the lottery’s support for charities.

The win has benefited local charities, with Leicester Animal Aid receiving a £75,000 boost thanks to funds raised by Postcode Lottery players.

The charity says the money will help provide care, veterinary treatment and support for cats and dogs in need.

“It’s good to win with other neighbours,” Lorraine said. “From a charity point of view, I know the money I spend every month helps a lot of people.”
