Romance Blossoms for Harborough in Bloom Volunteers

Romance is blooming after two volunteers with Market Harborough in Bloom got engaged.

David Helsby and Chris O’Neill met through the group after both joining as volunteers, sharing a love of gardening and other interests which helped their relationship blossom.

David unexpectedly got down on one knee in the organisation’s greenhouse in Welland Park following a planting session at Market Harborough railway station – and Chris said yes.

The proposal came as Market Harborough in Bloom celebrates its 30th anniversary and just weeks before judges from the East Midlands in Bloom competition visit the town.

The delighted couple spoke to HFM’s Nick Shaw shortly after the surprise proposal:

Fellow volunteers, who describe the group as one big family, were thrilled to witness the special moment and were among the first to congratulate the happy couple:
