Abandoned Cars Seized from Market Harborough Lay-by

Leicestershire Police have seized cars that were abandoned in a lay-by in Market Harborough for several months.

The action followed complaints from residents who said they had been unable to access the parking area opposite the petrol station on Coventry Road.

The three vehicles were untaxed, uninsured and without valid MOTs, and were removed by recovery agents working on behalf of police yesterday.

Councillor David Page, Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhood Services at Harborough District Council, had been working to address the situation after being contacted by residents.

He said the action sends out “a clear message” that vehicles left on the public highway without tax, insurance or a valid MOT risk enforcement action and removal

Cllr Page added: “Following complaints from residents, the council worked closely with the police and three vehicles have now been removed. The council will not tolerate illegal parking. Vehicles parked unlawfully create safety risks and inconvenience residents and businesses. We are committed to enforcing parking regulations consistently, and drivers should expect appropriate action, including fines or removal of vehicles where necessary. We urge all motorists to park responsibly to help keep our streets safe, accessible, and fair for everyone.”

A Leicestershire Police spokesperson said: “Officers from the Harborough and Wigston Neighbourhood Policing Area (NPA) will continue to working alongside and engaging with key partners about such matters.

“Where vehicles are found to be on the road illegally – where there is no tax or insurance in place or they have been declared off the road, vehicles will be seized.”
