Council Investigates Fly-Tipping of Large Tree

Harborough District Council is appealing for information after sections of a large tree were fly-tipped on a country lane.

The dumped rubbish blocked Ullesthorpe Road near Ashby Parva and council officers have launched an investigation to find those responsible.

Councillor David Page, Cabinet Lead for Neighbourhood Services, said: “The dumped material obstructed the highway, creating a danger to road users. Fly-tipping, obstructing the highway and creating hazardous conditions for others are serious matters and may amount to criminal offences.

“This was dangerous, deeply disrespectful to residents and exactly the kind of illegal behaviour we will not tolerate.

“Our teams acted quickly to make the area safe and clear the waste. Residents will pay for this clean-up through their council tax, but those responsible should be in no doubt, we intend to make them pay for what they have done.”

He added that the council has a “zero-tolerance approach” to fly-tipping and illegal waste dumping and urged anyone who saw suspicious activity in the area to come forward.

The fly-tip was reported last Tuesday morning and it is believed the tree and other waste were dumped overnight on Monday into the early hours of Tuesday.
