Dash-cam footage showing a near miss on the A508 near Market Harborough has led to a driver being fined more than £690 and handed six penalty points.

The 61-year-old man admitted driving without due care and attention after the video was submitted to Northamptonshire Police following the incident on Harborough Road in Maidwell.

The footage, released alongside other incidents, shows the driver overtaking a car behind a cyclist by crossing double white lines onto the opposite carriageway as another vehicle approached.

The Operation Snap scheme encourages members of the public to submit footage of suspected driving offences.

Now in its seventh year, Operation Snap continues to see strong public support, with nearly 3,000 dash-cam videos submitted to Northamptonshire Police in the past 12 months.

Since launching in 2019, the number of people reporting driving offences via the Force website and uploading video evidence has increased year-on-year.

Between April last year and April this year, the Force’s Safer Roads Team reviewed 2,899 videos submitted by more than 1,400 witnesses, compared with 2,340 clips during the previous 12-month period.

This has also led to increased enforcement action, with 1,508 Notices of Intended Prosecution sent to registered owners, slightly up on 1,444 the previous year.
