Villagers Celebrate Opening of New Houghton Pavilion

Villagers in Houghton on the Hill are celebrating the official opening of their new community pavilion.

The project is the result of more than six years of work by volunteers, who secured almost £900,000 to replace the old 1970s building.

Guests included representatives from Harborough District Council, which was one of the project’s main funders, along with district councillors, parish council representatives and members of the construction team.

The new facility is already being used by sports clubs and community groups.

Graham Warwick from the Houghton Field Association told HFM residents have played a big part in making the project happen, with their names now featured on the building:

Around 120 people gathered on Houghton Field for the opening celebrations and the ribbon and celebration cake were cut by Rutland and Stamford MP Alicia Kearns and Harborough District Council chairman Peter James.

Following the formal opening, visitors enjoyed refreshments while watching a video charting the build programme.

The pavilion is now open for private hire and community use, with regular café sessions already taking place during the week and at weekends.
