EV Charging Hub Plans Set for Approval

Plans for a new electric vehicle charging hub in Market Harborough are being recommended for approval.

The scheme at the Commons Car Park would include charging points, a solar canopy, and a battery storage system.

The hub would initially provide six charging stations with 12 11kW chargers and the site would also feature a solar canopy capable of generating 41.7kWp of power, with battery storage included.

The project by Harborough District Council forms part of a wider £2.4 million programme to expand EV charging infrastructure across Leicestershire in partnership with neighbouring councils.

Councillor Darren Woodiwiss, Cabinet Lead for Climate Change and Neighbourhood Services, said: “The new electric vehicle charging hub we hope to introduce at the Commons Car Park in Market Harborough will mark an important step in supporting sustainable travel across the Harborough district.”

He added that the investment would support residents and visitors, while contributing to wider climate goals.

The council says there are now more than 3,100 electric vehicles registered in the Harborough district – the highest in the county – with numbers increasing by around 200 every quarter.
