Fundraising drive to support Fleckney boy with rare condition

A major fundraising drive is underway to support a four-year-old boy from Fleckney who has a life-limiting muscle-wasting condition.

Roman Gibbins was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy in 2024, and his parents Matt and Rebecca have launched a crowdfunding appeal to help pay for a specialist wheelchair and other mobility aids not provided by the NHS.

The family will also have to move house to be able to accommodate Roman’s needs.

More than £10,000 has already been raised, and this weekend a team will begin a five-day walking challenge in the Lake District to boost the total.

The group will take on the Cumbria Way, with participants including Rob Gomez, Gary Waterfield, Jon Lawrence, John Dabbs, Andy Fitzpatrick, Danny Varnsverry and Paul Price – alongside Paul’s dog, Tilly.

They will be supported by Mick Dunne, who will drive a minibus kindly provided by Brooke House College in Market Harborough.
