Overnight A6 Closures for Carriageway Repairs

Written by on 2nd March 2026

The A6 bypass between Rothwell and Desborough will be closed overnight this week for essential carriageway repairs.

The work comes after complaints about numerous potholes, with some motorists reporting burst tyres and temporary emergency repairs already carried out.

The closure affects the stretch between the B576 junction near Desborough and the Fallow Road junction near junction 3 of the A14 near Rothwell.

It will be in place from 8pm to 6am each night until Saturday.

A large pothole caused damage to several cars last month and prompted an emergency repair

The repairs form part of “pre-patching” ahead of a surface dressing programme planned for spring and summer 2026.

Cllr Chris McGiffen, the Council’s Executive Member for Highways and Travel, said: “We know that repairing the roads across North Northamptonshire is a priority for so many residents and we are listening to your concerns. Going forward, we are determined to make an impact on repairing the network, especially after such a wet and rainy winter.

“This work is the start of this process and will be followed by an extensive surface dressing programme later in 2026.”

Drivers are advised to allow extra time for journeys, with the official diversion via the A427 to Corby, the A6003 to Kettering, and the A43 to the A14.
