Council Acts After Falls on Zebra Crossing

Emergency repairs have been made in Rothwell after two elderly people fell on a zebra crossing due to a large pothole and loose cobblestones.

The latest incident on Bell Hill involved a partially-sighted man in his 80s, who tripped into other pedestrians. Fortunately, no one was injured.

Vehicles hitting the loose stones had also sent them onto the pavement, raising fears of serious injuries.

North Northamptonshire Council attended the scene today to make the area safe, ahead of further work.

The man’s family was among those calling for immediate repairs. One resident told HFM: “It really is an appalling situation and I can’t believe nothing has been done to fix it. People are falling over and risking serious injury.”

Several reports about the hazard have already been made to the council.

A North Northamptonshire Council spokesman said: “We are very sorry to hear about the recent incident on Bell Hill and fully understand residents’ concerns.

“One of our teams attended the site today and made the area safe. Further repair work is planned for tomorrow (Thursday). We appreciate residents continuing to report issues like this to us, and we are working to resolve this as quickly as possible.”
