A long-standing charity shop in Market Harborough is set to close as part of a nationwide shake-up by Cancer Research UK.

The Coventry Road store is among 200 outlets the charity plans to shut over the next two years, citing rising costs and changing shopping habits.

The closures are expected to save £12.4 million over five years, with funds redirected to cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment research.

Julie Byard, director of trading at Cancer Research UK, said the charity is “deeply grateful to our staff, volunteers and customers who have supported the Market Harborough shop over the years” and added the closure is “not a reflection of the outstanding work of our local teams” but a necessary step to ensure funds continue to support life-saving research.

The exact closure date has not yet been confirmed.
