Harborough Pub Offers £1 Meals to Support Diners

A Harborough pub is offering diners a £1 meal to help tackle the cost-of-living crisis.

The Red Lion in Great Bowden is serving cut-price lunches on Wednesdays and Thursdays throughout February as part of its “Hot Meals for a Cold Month” campaign.

Each day, there will be a choice of one meat and one vegetarian dish made with locally sourced ingredients.

The initiative also aims to highlight the financial pressures facing the hospitality sector, including rising national insurance, business rates, and other costs.

Chris Bolan, Executive Chef at The Three Goats, which owns the pub, said: “People think we’re mad offering a meal for £1, and perhaps it is unwise from a strictly commercial point of view, but it will hopefully bring new people through the doors. We’re also part of our community and want to remain a place where people can gather and eat a tasty, top-quality meal, even when they’re having to cut their spending.”

He added: “There are huge challenges to running a country pub, but we’re continuing to invest and determined to make a go of this. It’s a tragedy that so many rural pubs are closing, as they are the beating heart of rural communities. People of all ages and backgrounds come here. We will continue to be a community within a community, an inclusive place for all to drink, dine and unwind.”
