Council Considers New Developer Levy

Written by on 3rd February 2026

Harborough District Council is looking at introducing a new charge on developers to help fund local infrastructure.

The Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) would apply to most new developments and work alongside existing Section 106 agreements, which also provide funding for upgrades in areas where new homes are built.

CIL is a government-backed, non-negotiable levy that ensures new developments contribute to the infrastructure needed to support population growth, including schools, transport networks, and leisure facilities.

The council is currently carrying out studies to determine what rates could be applied before any final decision is made.
