132 Drivers Arrested In Drink & Drug Drive Crackdown

Over 130 people were arrested on Leicestershire’s roads during December’s police drink and drug drive campaign.

85 drivers failed roadside breath tests, 35 were found to be under the influence of drugs, and 12 refused to provide a sample.

47 arrests followed a collision, with 24 people taken into custody during daytime checks.

In the Harborough district, seven people were arrested, including in Market Harborough, Kibworth and West Langton, three of which were linked to a crash.

Police have described the figures as “extremely disappointing,” with 17 more arrests than during last year’s festive campaign.

Jonathan Clarkson, spokesperson for the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Road Safety Partnership said: “It is extremely disappointing that so many drivers chose to ignore our advice and made the wrong choice to get behind the wheel while over the limit and now face the prospect of starting 2026 with a criminal conviction.”

During a similar campaign in Northamptonshire, 110 drivers were arrested, compared to 94 in December 2024.

Of those, 87 were on suspicion of driving while under the influence of alcohol and 23 were in relation to drug driving.
