Nearly 70 Arrested In Drug Drive Crackdown

Nearly 70 drivers have been arrested during the first two weeks of Leicestershire Police’s winter drink and drug drive campaign.

40 people failed breath tests, 21 were arrested for drug-driving and 7 failed to provide a sample.

25 drivers were detained following a road traffic collision and one motorist was nearly four times the legal alcohol limit.

In the Harborough district, there were arrests in Market Harborough, Kibworth, West Langton and Scraptoft – two following crashes.

A police spokesperson said: “The advice remains to have “None for the Road” and if out celebrating over the festive period book a taxi, use public transport or identify a sober designated driver and think about the morning after when you could still be over the limit.

“Leicestershire Police patrols will be working around the clock over the Christmas period looking out for intoxicated drivers across the City, County & Rutland to help make sure the roads are safe for everyone.”
