Farmers Stage ‘Go-Slow’ Protest On A14

Farmers have staged a ‘go-slow’ tractor protest on the A14 through the HFM region against proposed changes to inheritance tax.

The convoy of around 100 tractors was part of action nationwide dubbed the ‘Day of Unity’ to highlight continued concern and anger at the plan ahead of Wednesday’s budget, with fears it will lead to higher food prices and lower production.

Chancellor Rachel Reeves’ proposal to introduce the 20% rate on agricultural land and businesses worth more than £1m has become a political flashpoint for a sector struggling with rising costs, tough market conditions and worsening climate impacts.

Farmers from Northamponshire and Leicestershire were part of today’s action, which led to some congestion on the A14.
