Historic House Demolished Ahead Of Flats Plan

A derelict historic house in Market Harborough town centre has been demolished to make-way for planned new apartments.

The property on Roman Way was bought by a developer earlier this year when Harborough District Council scrapped plans to build accommodation for the homeless on the site.

The house dated back to the 1600s and was once a restaurant.

Site clearance work has taken place and agents for the developer told HFM that a planning application for the new apartments is set to be submitted soon.

HDC took a £50,000 hit when it sold the property after abandoning its housing scheme because it was deemed is no longer financially viable.

The council purchased it for £265,000 and has sold it for £215,000.
