Petition Demands Town Council Idea Considered

A petition has been launched urging Harborough District Council to explore the creation of a town council for Market Harborough.
The campaign is being led by the town’s four Neighbourhood Forums after councillors last month voted to reject the idea as part of a wider Community Governance Review.

The Forums were ‘deeply disappointed’ by the decision and say there is growing public support for a town council, particularly as local government reorganisation could see Harborough absorbed into a larger unitary authority, potentially reducing the town’s influence over local decisions.
If at least 1,600 registered voters in Market Harborough sign the petition, the council will be legally required to carry out the review.
