‘Nature Emergency’ Declaration On-Hold
Written by HFM News on 14th October 2025
A proposal by Harborough District Council to declare a ‘Nature Emergency’ has been put on hold.
The move was intended to build on the council’s 2019 Climate Emergency declaration, by including a greater focus on nature recovery.

However, during last night’s full council meeting, some councillors raised concerns about the detail of the proposal.
As a result, the ruling coalition agreed to withdraw the report for further review.
Any future declaration could include commitments to tackle issues such as fly-tipping.
