Councillors Reject Plans For New Homes in Lubenham

Councillors have rejected a controversial plan for up to 90 new homes on the outskirts of Lubenham.
Developer Barratt David Wilson Homes wanted to build the new estate on eight acres of fields off Laughton Road, but planning officers at Harborough District Council raised a number of concerns, including it causing harm to the character and appearance of the area.
The planning committee voted unanimously to refuse permission at a meeting last night.

The site was not identified for development in the district council’s Local Plan or Lubenham’s Neighbourhood Plan, however HDC cannot currently demonstrate a five-year housing land supply, meaning it is subject to speculative development plans.
A number of villagers had lodged objections about the plan and more than 60 signed an on-line petition against it.
