Controversial Housing Plan Recommended for Refusal

A controversial proposal to build up to 90 new homes on the outskirts of Lubenham is being recommended for refusal.
Planning officers at Harborough District Council have raised multiple concerns about the Barratt David Wilson Homes plan on land off Laughton Road, including the potential harm to the character and appearance of the area.

Lubenham Parish Council and several villagers have objected to the plan and over 60 people have signed a petition against the development.
Campaigners say the new homes would increase the village’s population by a quarter.
A report to be considered by the council’s Planning Committee says the proposal’s scale and isolated location would be out of keeping with the village’s pastoral setting, while the design failed to integrate with the existing built environment.
Despite the council’s current lack of a five-year housing land supply, it concluded that the harm caused would significantly outweigh any benefits of the development, including the provision of new homes.
Councillors are set to make the final decision on the application next week.
