Butterwick Staff ‘Betrayed’ After Sudden Harborough Store Closures
Written by HFM News on 26th September 2025
The former manager of the Butterwick stores in Market Harborough feels ‘betrayed’ by the company after they were closed without warning.
Chloe Morrison, 28, managed the Church Street and Railway Station branches, having first joined the bakery and coffee shop chain as a store assistant.
She and her colleagues received an email on Monday informing them the stores had shut with immediate effect, leaving them without jobs.
The branches were among several across the East Midlands to close suddenly.
Staff learned from an on-line meeting they won’t get their wages this month, and will have to reclaim the money via the government.
Chloe has spoken out and also thanked people for their support:

The owners of Butterwick said the decision to close the stores was taken with ‘deep regret’ and they were ‘heartbroken’ for the impact on their ‘incredible’ team members.
A spokesperson for BRI Business Insolvency said: “BRI Business Recovery and Insolvency (“BRI”) has been instructed by the directors of Butterwick Bakes Ltd (“the Company”) to assist with the closure of 12 of the 14 sites across the Midlands and also to assist with placing the Company into creditors’ voluntary liquidation.
“Approximately 62 employees were made redundant following the closure of the 12 sites and they are being supported by IPERA Services Limited.
“The directors’ have explained that by returning to the Northampton and Rushden Lakes sites they will be returning to their roots to allow an authentic in-store bakery experience where craft, freshness, and creativity come first.”
