Funding Boost For Secondary Schools

Market Harborough’s two secondary schools are to benefit from funding totalling over £400,000.

Welland Park Academy has been handed just under £190,000 to upgrade seating in its Octagonal Theatre, while Robert Smyth Academy will get over £218,000 to refurbish changing room facilities.

The funding has been awarded by Harborough District Council through the ‘Section 106’ scheme – where housing developers provide cash for community improvements in areas where they have built.

The upgrades will not only benefit students, but also the wider community, as outside groups use both the theatre and sports facilities.

The council’s Cabinet Sub Committee for Grants agreed to award the money and Cllr Phil Knowles, Leader of the council, spoke to HFM:
