Historic Locomotive Set To Steam Through Market Harborough

Train enthusiasts are in for a treat as the Flying Scotsman is set to pass through Market Harborough railway station twice tomorrow (Saturday).

The world-famous steam locomotive is expected to travel south through the station in reverse just after 10am and then return pulling carriages north at around 11.45am.

The Flying Scotsman will initially be on route to Kettering, where it will be connected to carriages to haul the Belmond British Pullman to the ‘Greatest Gathering’ event in Derby, which is celebrating the 200th anniversary of the world’s first passenger train service.

The locomotive is described by the National Railway Museum as the “world’s most famous” steam engine.

It first entered service in 1923 and broke records by hauling the first non-stop London to Edinburgh service in 1928.

Six years later, it became the UK’s first locomotive to officially reach a speed of 100mph.
