Net-Zero Cash Reallocated By LCC

Two million pounds earmarked for net zero initiatives in Leicestershire will instead be used for flood prevention projects and mitigating against severe weather events.

The county council’s Cabinet approved the reallocation of funding after the ruling Reform UK administration requested the change.

The move follows severe flooding events in Leicestershire in the past year, with Little Bowden, Great Glen and Broughton Astley badly affected in the Harborough district.

The £2m carbon reduction reserve was set aside in 2022 to create a fund to pump-prime new carbon reduction initiatives.
