Man Jailed After A427 Crash On-The-Run

A man jailed for causing the death of a young Mum in a crash near Market Harborough has absconded from an open prison.

Steven Gaskell, 32, walked out of HMP Sudbury in Derbyshire a week ago and has not been seen since.

He was serving a sentence of just over five years for causing death by driving whilst disqualified, after his girlfriend Courtney Donnelly, 23, from Corby, died in the crash on the A427 in Brampton Ash in September 2023.

She was a passenger is a Mini car that left the road and came to rest in a field.

Less than a month before the crash, Gaskell, previously of Corby, was given a suspended prison sentence after being caught driving in a stolen vehicle on the A14 and had previously been found driving six times while banned.

Derbyshire Police are appealing for information about his whereabouts and say he has links to Northamptonshire, Leicestershire, Rutland and elsewhere.

He only has one eye and is described as being about 6ft 3in tall (1.9m), with blonde hair and a blonde/ginger beard.
