Drivers’ Frustration At ‘No Show’ A6 Roadworks

Written by on 9th June 2025

Drivers have been left frustrated that no work has been taking place on the A6 in Kibworth despite a lane being closed causing lengthy delays.

Temporary traffic lights have been in place near the entrance to the tip on Harborough Road since late last week, but there was no sign of any workers from Severn Trent Water over the weekend.

Drivers have expressed frustration at the situation

Motorists have also questioned why three-way traffic lights were in use during days when the tip was closed, further adding to the delays.

Driver Mike Reeder told HFM: “It’s an absolute joke.  I had to travel to and from Market Harborough twice over the weekend and it took me almost three times as long as normal.

“The cones could have easily been moved and the lights switched off for the weekend to avoid this misery.”

Severn Trent Water say the urgent work was needed to repair a leaking fire hydrant.

A Severn Trent spokesperson said: “Our teams have been on site on the A6 to replace a fire hydrant at the request as of the fire service as it was leaking.

“The hydrant has now been fixed, but our teams need to put the road back to normal and this is why the traffic management was still in place over the weekend.

“We understand that works like these can be frustrating, and we apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank everyone for their patience.”

The restriction and traffic lights were removed this afternoon.

Severn Trent Water was previously fined by the council for putting traffic lights up on the A6 in Kibworth for several days and not carrying out any works.

A spokesperson for Leicestershire County Council said: “Severn Trent have launched an investigation into the operational performance of this project.

“The county council and Severn Trent will review the outcomes and advise of any actions proposed.”
