Over 1,300 People Oppose ‘New Town’ Plan

Over 1,300 people are opposing the plan to build a new town near Great Glen.

All have added their names to a mass objection being collated by campaign group ‘Stop The New Town’ (STNT)

Opposition is mounting against the plan

Harborough District Council’s Draft Local Plan proposes 4,000 homes for the site at Stretton Hall, with land bordering the area earmarked for a further 2,000 houses, as part of Oadby and Wigston Borough Council’s plan.

Concerns include existing infrastructure like roads being unable to cope and the loss of countryside.

Henri Winand is leading the campaign and said: “Who could have known when we started this that the local support would be so significant?!

“Residents en-masse are rejecting this needless destruction of beloved local countryside.”

The campaign group has prepared a 55-page comprehensive response to Harborough’s draft local plan, as public consultation continues on the masterplan, which maps out preferred development sites for the next 15 years.
